Computer Networking & Cybersecurity Minecraft Server

This server was monotonously put together with duct tape and glue, and here are the "features":

Getting on the server is a two-step process:
  1. Getting a compatible Minecraft client installed on your device
  2. Connecting to the server

Downloading a client

If you have the Minecraft Launcher installed and have already purchased Minecraft, click here
Otherwise, take the pleb route
Have both? Then you can use both!
The Eaglercraft clients include performant WASM clients which and that's pretty cool.
Even if the Java Client looks a little better, you can still be on max settings and get 60 FPS on Eaglercraft.
Well, at least I did on my school laptop. (i use...)

Eaglercraft

(Literally free and runs in your web browser)
  1. Before proceeding, heed my words:
    • Version 1.8.8 is more stable, while 12.2.2 is (obviously) newer
    • While WASM clients are more performant, you will likely have to enable experimental feature flags in your browser, and they are also more unstable
    • That is to say that 1.8.8 is the most stable, whereas 12.2.2 WASM is the newest and more performant, but least stable
    • I recommend downloading the .zips and running the game locally so you can play single-player offline and without TLS if you so please
    • A number of quirks of these clients are mentioned at the top of the download page, however you can ignore them if you want
  2. Click here to download the Eaglercraft client of your choice, or you can try it without downloading (which means you can skip to connecting to the server)
  3. Extract the zip wherever you please
  4. Double click on the Eaglercraft_1.X.X_Offline_Download.html file to open it in your browser (or Ctrl+O and select it, drag it into Chrome, idrc)
  5. That’s it lol, just walk through the screens and follow any instructions until you get to the main menu, then continue to joining the server.
OR

Java Edition

(for if you actually own Minecraft on PC AND can install it on your device)

You can logon to the server with any version above 1.8.8, including the latest release.

  1. Open up the Minecraft Launcher
  2. Click on "Minecraft: Java Edition"
  3. To the left of the big green "PLAY" button is a dropdown, click on it and select "latest release" (if it's not already selected)
  4. Click "PLAY" and continue to "Joining the Server"

However, if you would like to have parity with what the Eaglercraft clients see (why?), then you can follow the instructions below to download one of the old versions

Note that this does work for ANY Minecraft version, and is most useful for playing old April Fools updates (CraftMine the goat, should've won game of the year.)
  1. Open up the Minecraft Launcher
  2. Click on "Minecraft: Java Edition"
  3. At the top of the page, click on the "Installations" tab
  4. Click on "New installation"
  5. Name the installation...uhh...whatever you want ("old asf", "Kemp’s Kool", "Computer Networking MC Server", literally doesn't matter)
  6. For "Version", choose release 1.12.2 or 1.8.8 (you can type to find it quicker)
  7. In the bottom right corner, toggle "Launch after Install" and click on "Install"

Joining the Server

  1. On the main menu, click "Multiplayer"
  2. Click "Add Server"
  3. For "Server Name", enter whatever you want ("CN Server")
  4. For "Server Address", enter cnmc.foreverpyrite.com
Note: if you're on Java you'll need to use cnmc.foreverpyrite.com:12654
  5. Click "Done"
  6. Double click on the new entry in the server list
  7. Play the game, probably

I STRONGLY recommend that you register with the currently avalible authentication method for the time being: AuthMe
All you have to do is type /register password confirmPassword where both password and confirmPassword are the password you want to use.
If you think you are just logging on this one time and don't want the hassle of authentication, then sure, don't do it. Otherwise, you will most likely regret it.

Oh yeah, a Discord I guess.

You can probably guess my Discord, but assuming you’re one of the CN students, here’s the Discord Ben made.
I'll be in there, if you wanna DM me about it, suggest things there, ect.
Otherwise, hope you get some form of enjoyment out of this, and have fun breaking things!
